The Art of the Nude Lip – a step by step guide for a youthful pout
I’m a bold and bright Red Lipstick girl myself, but I understand the importance of a great nude lip, especially when wearing a smokey eye.
Let’s face it, thick matte beige lips are aging on anyone, and I’ve been known to change-up my lipstick routine on occasion. How to wear an updated, more youthful looking nude lip? Read further.
1. Exfoliate – remove dry flaky skin. Lips should be smooth, plump and healthy. My favorite product is Benefit’s Buffing Lip Beads – leaves my lips silky soft. If you’re on a budget I recommend applying Vaseline on your lips and brushing with a clean toothbrush – the results are soft and smooth lips. A favorite lip balm is Yes to Butter from Yes to Carrots, Hugo Naturals Lip Balm or Buzz Balm by Beecology – all organic.
2. Setting the base – Apply a touch of concealer around your natural lip line, along with a dab of your favorite foundation and powder for a smooth surface. This gives your lip gloss or lipstick something to adhere to.
3. Filling in with color – When choosing a lip gloss opt for something with a shimmer for dimension. I tend to lip line with a matching lip pencil and fill in sparingly, this helps preserve the color longer, especially after morning coffee.
Extras: Remember to blot and don’t forget to wear eye liner and mascara with your nude lip and choose a pinkish blush to add a dose of color. Never wear a nude lip alone unless you’re after a corps like appearance.
