Beauty Inspiration: Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s
I think most people will agree that Audrey Hepburn was one of the most elegant iconic beauties of her time. Her grace, poise, inner beauty and classic ladylike style has withstood the test of time, and is still admired and emulated by a new generation of young women!
Today Audrey’s character, Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, is my inspiration for a Valentine’s Day look that is ultra-feminine and forever gorgeous. It’s a look that is surprisingly natural and minimalistic, and easy to pull off . Most likely you already own what you’ll need in your makeup arsenal to recreate this look. So, break out your tiaras, that forever staple in our closets- the lbd, and your best pearls before checking out this how-to…
Step by Step:
- Apply foundation and concealer in shades that match your skin tone (Remember we want a look that is inspired by Audrey, while still being beautiful you!)
- Dust your face with loose translucent powder to set, but not too much! You want to look dewy and youthful.
- Fill in and darken brows. You can see that Audrey has thicker brows, which was on trend for the decade. If you like, you can use stencils to achieve thicker, more voluptuous brows. (Try Form-A-Brow Kit by Senna Cosmetics)
- Sweep beige eyeshadow over both lids.
- Apply white pencil the rim of your bottom inner eyelid if desired. This will make your eyes look brighter and more doe-eyed.
- Apply liquid eyeliner in black or brown or eyeliner shadow by Bare Minerals. Thicken the eyeliner more towards the end of the eye and wing it out.
- Apply fake eyelashes if you wish. Apply two coats of mascara to really glamorize the look!
- Add some cream blush in a peachy-pink hue to the apples of your cheek and blend. A blush we love: NYC New York Color Big City Apple.
- Next, line your lips with a nude lip pencil. Apply some matte, pink lipstick, although peach or nude would look equally as beautiful!
- Don’t have killer cheekbones like Audrey? No worries. Sweep some highlighter at the top of your cheeks to define them and apply some at your browbone to really make your eyes pop.
Here’s a fantastic video tutorial by Amy Benjamin of AskMeMakeup here if you prefer a visual. Amy also includes what makeup products she utilizes which you might find helpful.
Also, if you are really ambitious and would like to style your hair a la Miss Golightly, here is a video that shows you how to style your hair in a french twist.
However, when you get to around 4:20 in the video, just remove the hairband from your top ponytail, tease the hair a bit to add some volume, smooth the outside hair slightly, and fold your hair under towards your face, pinning in place. Spray with a fine misting hairspray to hold your do!
And that is it… All that’s left to do is admire your ladylike look and exclaim, Delightful, Dahling!
