Lip Crayons

In April’s edition of Allure, makeup artist Brigitte Reiss-Anderson gave the new lip crayons a try. Gone are the old lip crayons’ waxy finishes. The new and improved lip crayons feature creamier textures and a glossy sheen. One might even say these aren’t your mother’s lip crayons. Or your big sister’s. Whatever. Anyway, here’s Reiss-Anderson’s professional take on the grown-up girl’s crayon set:

Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Luster, $24 Shimmery, with just a hint of pigment. Don’t be fooled by the bright packaging – if you just want a tinted lip balm, this one’s for you.

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm, $15 Already reviewed by My Life in Beauty, Reiss-Anderson’s describes it as “Sheer, with a large dose of hydration. This lip crayon defines the lips with very little color – it’s no-makeup makeup.” Perfect for those who shy away from bright color but still want something on their lips.

Nars Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil, $24 Creamy with a hint of sheen. Glides on smoothly with a glossy finish but it’s not super shiny.

Lord & Berry Dream Gloss Crayon, $10 Soft glistening color – and Reiss-Anderson’s favorite. Discreet shades that still pack a punch with a satiny feel.
